The Witness of the Scriptures

For the reader who would carry the Scriptures of this book in one hand, the principal texts are gathered here by theme, in the King James rendering used throughout. Each is quoted or treated in the chapters; this page is their muster.

THE ONE CHURCH AND THE ONE ALTAR

First Timothy 3:15, the Church the pillar and ground of the truth; Acts 9:4, why persecutest thou Me; Ephesians 4:4 to 6, one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism; First Corinthians 10:16 to 17, one bread, one body, partakers of that one bread; Ephesians 5:27, a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle; Hebrews 13:10, we have an altar.

THE COMMAND TO WITHDRAW

THE FALSE SHEPHERDS FORETOLD

Matthew 7:15 to 16, false prophets in sheep's clothing, known by their fruits; Acts 20:29 to 30, grievous wolves, and of your own selves shall men arise; Second Timothy 4:3 to 4, itching ears, turned unto fables; Matthew 24:24, false prophets deceiving, if it were possible, the very elect; Second Peter 2:1, false teachers privily bringing in damnable heresies; Jeremiah 23:1, woe unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep.

THE FLOCK'S DISCERNMENT

THE COMMUNICANT'S CONFESSION

THE PROMISE AND THE FOUNDATION

THE COST AND THE CROWN
