3 Kingdoms 2

And the days of David drew near that he should die: and he addressed his son Solomon, saying, I go the way of all the earth:

Καὶ ἤγγισαν αἱ ἡμέραι Δαυὶδ ἀποθανεῖν αὐτὸν, καὶ ἀπεκρίνατο Σαλωμὼν υἱῷ αὐτοῦ, λέγων,

but be thou strong, and shew thyself a man;

ἐγώ εἰμι πορεύομαι ἐν ὁδῷ πάσης τῆς γῆς· καὶ ἰσχύσεις, καὶ ἔσῃ εἰς ἄνδρα,

and keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep the commandments and the ordinances and the judgments which are written in the law of Moses; that thou mayest understand what thou shalt do in all things that I command thee:

καὶ φυλάξεις φυλακὴν Κυρίου Θεοῦ σου τοῦ πορεύεσθαι ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ, φυλάσσειν τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ δικαιώματα καὶ τὰ κρίματα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ νόμῳ Μωυσέως· ἵνα συνήσῃς ἃ ποιήσεις κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἂν ἐντείλωμαί σοι·

that the Lord may confirm his word which he spoke, saying, If thy children shall take heed to their way to walk before me in truth with all their heart, I promise thee, saying, there shall not fail thee a man on the throne of Israel.

Ἵνα στήσῃ Κύριος τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ ὃν ἐλάλησε, λέγων, ἐὰν φυλάξωσιν οἱ υἱοί σου τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτῶν πορεύεσθαι ἐνώπιόν μου ἐν ἀληθείᾳ, ἐν ὅλῃ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν, λέγων, οὐκ ἐξολοθρευθήσεταί σοι ἀνὴρ ἐπάνωθεν θρόνου Ἰσραήλ.

Moreover thou knowest all that Joab the son of Saruia did to me, what he did to the two captains of the forces of Israel, to Abenner the son of Ner, and to Amessai the son of Jether, that he slew them, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put innocent blood on his girdle that was about his loins, and on his sandal that was on his foot.

Καί γε σὺ ἔγνως ὅσα ἐποίησέ μοι Ἰωὰβ υἱὸς Σαρουίας, ὅσα ἐποίησε τοῖς δυσὶν ἄρχουσι τῶν δυνάμεων Ἰσραὴλ, τῷ Ἀβεννὴρ υἱῷ Νὴρ, καὶ τῷ Ἀμεσσαῒ υἱῷ Ἰεθὲρ, καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἔταξε τὰ αἵματα πολέμου ἐν εἰρήνῃ, καὶ ἔδωκεν αἷμα ἀθῶον ἐν τῇ ζώνῃ αὐτοῦ τῇ ἐν τῇ ὀσφύϊ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐν τῷ ὑποδήματι αὐτοῦ τῷ ἐν τῷ ποδὶ αὐτοῦ.

Therefore thou shalt deal with him according to thy wisdom, and thou shalt not bring down his grey hairs in peace to the grave.

Καὶ ποιήσεις κατὰ τὴν σοφίαν σου, καὶ σὺ κατάξεις τὴν πολιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐν εἰρήνῃ εἰς ᾅδου.

But thou shalt deal kindly with the sons of Berzelli the Galaadite, and they shall be among those that eat at thy table; for thus they drew nigh to me when I fled from the face of thy brother Abessalom.

Καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Βερζελλὶ τοῦ Γαλααδίτου ποιήσεις ἔλεος, καὶ ἔσονται ἐν τοῖς ἐσθίουσιν τὴν τράπεζάν σου· ὅτι οὕτως ἤγγισάν μοι ἐν τῷ με ἀποδιδράσκειν ἀπὸ προσώπου Ἀβεσσαλὼμ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου.

And, behold, there is with thee Semei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Baurim: and he cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went into the camp; and he came down to Jordan to meet me, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

Καὶ ἰδοὺ μετὰ σοῦ Σεμεῒ υἱὸς Γηρὰ υἱὸς τοῦ Ἰεμινὶ ἐκ Βαουρὶμ, καὶ αὐτὸς κατηράσατό με κατάραν ὀδυνηρὰν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ ἐπορευόμην εἰς παρεμβολάς· καὶ αὐτὸς κατέβη εἰς ἀπαντήν μου εἰς τὸν Ἰορδάνην, καὶ ὤμοσα αὐτῷ ἐν Κυρίῳ, λέγων, εἰ θανατώσω σε ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ.

But thou shalt by no means hold him guiltless, for thou art a wise man, and wilt know what thou shalt do to him, and shalt bring down his grey hairs with blood to the grave.

Καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀθωώσῃς αὐτὸν, ὅτι ἀνὴρ σοφὸς εἶ σύ, καὶ γνώσῃ ἃ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ, καὶ κατάξεις τὴν πολιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐν αἵματι εἰς ᾅδου.

And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

Καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Δαυὶδ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν πόλει Δαυίδ.

And the days which David reigned over Israel were forty years; he reigned seven years in Chebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

Καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι ἃς ἐβασίλευσε Δαυὶδ ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ, τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη· ἐν Χεβρὼν ἐβασίλευσεν ἑπτά ἔτη, καὶ ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ τριάκοντα τρία ἔτη.

And Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his kingdom was established greatly.

Καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ θρόνου Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἡτοιμάσθη ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ σφόδρα.

And Adonias the son of Aggith came in to Bersabee the mother of Solomon, and did obeisance to her: and she said, Dost thou enter peaceably? and he said, Peaceably:

Καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Ἀδωνίας υἱὸς Ἀγγὶθ πρὸς Βηρσαβεὲ μητέρα Σαλωμὼν, καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῇ· ἡ δὲ εἶπεν, εἰρήνη ἡ εἴσοδός σου; καὶ εἶπεν, εἰρήνη·

I have business with thee. And she said to him, Say on.

λόγος μοι πρὸς σέ. Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, λάλησον.

And he said to her, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel turned their face toward me for a king; but the kingdom was turned from me and became my brother's: for it was appointed to him from the Lord.

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ, σὺ οἶδας, ὅτι ἐμοὶ ἦν βασιλεία, καὶ ἐπʼ ἐμὲ ἔθετο πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ εἰς βασιλέα· καὶ ἐστράφη ἡ βασιλεία, καὶ ἐγένετο τῷ ἀδελφῷ μου, ὅτι παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγενήθη αὐτῷ.

And now I make one request of thee, do not turn away thy face. And Bersabee said to him, Speak on.

Καὶ νῦν αἴτησιν μίαν ἐγὼ αἰτοῦμαι παρὰ σοῦ, μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου· καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Βηρσαβεὲ, λάλει.

And he said to her, Speak, I pray thee, to king Solomon, for he will not turn away his face from thee, and let him give me Abisag the Somanite for a wife.

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ, εἰπον δὴ πρὸς Σαλωμὼν τὸν βασιλέα, ὅτι οὐκ ἀποστρέψει τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ σοῦ, καὶ δώσει μοι τὴν Ἀβισὰγ τὴν Σωμανίτιν εἰς γυναῖκα.

And Bersabee said, Well; I will speak for thee to the king.

Καὶ εἶπε Βηρσαβεὲ, καλῶς· ἐγὼ λαλήσω περὶ σοῦ τῷ βασιλεῖ.

And Bersabee went in to king Solomon to speak to him concerning Adonias; and the king rose up to meet her, and kissed her, and sat on the throne, and a throne was set for the mother of the king, and she sat on his right hand.

Καὶ εἰσῆλθε Βηρσαβεὲ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Σαλωμὼν αλῆσαι αὐτῷ περὶ Ἀδωνίου· καὶ ἐξανέστη ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς ἀπαντὴν αὐτῇ, καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτὴν, καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου· καὶ ἐτέθη θρόνος τῇ μητρὶ τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ.

And she said to him, I ask of thee one little request; turn not away my face from thee. And the king said to her, Ask, my mother, and I will not reject thee.

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, αἴτησιν μίαν μικρὰν ἐγὼ αἰτοῦμαι παρὰ σοῦ, μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν μου· καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ βασιλεύς, αἴτησαι, μήτερ ἐμὴ, καὶ οὐκ ἀποστρέψω σε.

And she said, Let, I pray thee, Abisag the Somanite be given to Adonias thy brother to wife.

Καὶ εἶπε, δοθήτω δὴ Ἀβισὰ ἡ Σωμανίτις τῷ Αδωνίᾳ τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου εἰς γυναῖκα.

And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why hast thou asked Abisag for Adonias? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother, and he has for his companion Abiathar the priest, and Joab the son of Saruia the commander-in-chief.

Καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν, καὶ εἶπε τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἱνατί σὺ ᾔτησαι τὴν Ἀβισὰλ τῷ Ἀδωνίᾳ; καὶ αἴτησαι αὐτῷ τὴν βασιλείαν, ὅτι οὗτος ἀδελφός μου ὁ μέγας ὑπὲρ ἐμέ, καὶ αὐτῷ Ἀβιάθαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς, καὶ αὐτῷ Ἰωὰβ ὁ υἱὸς Σαρουίας ἀρχιστράτηγος ἑταῖρος.

And king Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if it be not that Adonias has spoken this word against his own life.

Καὶ ὤμοσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν κατὰ τοῦ Κυρίου, λέγων, τάδε ποιήσαι μοι ὁ Θεὸς καὶ τάδε παροσθείη, ὅτι κατὰ τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ ἐλάλησεν Ἀδωνίας τὸν λόγον τοῦτον.

And now as the Lord lives who has established me, and set me on the throne of my father David, and he has made me a house, as the Lord spoke, this day shall Adonias be put to death.

Καὶ νῦν ζῇ Κύριος ὃς ἡτοίμασε με καὶ ἔθετό με ἐπὶ τὸν θρόνον Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐποίησέ μοι οἶκον καθὼς ἐλάλησε Κύριος, ὅτι σήμερον θανατωθήσεται Ἀδωνίας.

So king Solomon sent by the hand of Banæas the son of Jodae, and he slew him, and Adonias died in that day.

Καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν ἐν χειρὶ Βαναίου υἱοῦ Ἰωδαὲ, καὶ ἀνεῖλεν αὐτὸν, καὶ ἀπέθανεν Ἀδωνίας ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ.

And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Depart thou quickly to Anathoth to thy farm, for thou art worthy of death this day; but I will not slay thee, because thou hast borne the ark of the covenant of the Lord before my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all things wherein my father was afflicted.

Καὶ τῷ Ἀβιάθαρ τῷ ἱερεῖ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς, ἀπότρεχε σὺ εἰς Ἀναθὼθ εἰς ἀγρόν σου, ὅτι ἀνὴρ θανάτου εἶ σὺ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ· καὶ οὐ θανατώσω σε, ὅτι ᾖρας τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης Κυρίου ἐνώπιον τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ ὅτι ἐκακουχήθης ἐν πᾶσιν οἷς ἐκακουχήθη ὁ πατήρ μου.

And Solomon removed Abiathar from being a priest of the Lord, that the word of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he spoke concerning the house of Heli in Selom.

Καὶ ἐξέβαλε Σαλωμὼν τὸν Ἀβιάθαρ τοῦ μὴ εἶναι ἱερέα τοῦ Κυρίου, πληρωθῆναι τὸ ῥῆμα Κυρίου, ὃ ἐλάλησεν ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον Ἡλὶ ἐν Σηλώμ.

And the report came to Joab son of Saruia; for Joab had turned after Adonias, and he went not after Solomon: and Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

Καὶ ἡ ἀκοὴ ἦλθεν ἕως Ἰωὰβ υἱοῦ Σαρουίας, ὅτι Ἰωὰβ ἦν κεκλικὼς ὀπίσω Ἀδωνίου, καὶ ὀπίσω Σαλωμὼν οὐκ ἔκλινε· καὶ ἔφυγεν Ἰωὰβ εἰς τὸ σκήνωμα τοῦ Κυρίου, καὶ κατέσχε τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου.

And it was told Solomon, saying, Joab has fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and lo! he has hold of the horns of the altar. And king Solomon sent to Joab, saying, What ails thee, that thou hast fled to the altar? and Joab said, Because I was afraid of thee, and fled for refuge to the Lord. And Solomon sent Banæas son of Jodae, saying, Go and slay him, and bury him.

Καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Σαλωμὼν, λέγοντες, ὅτι πέφευγεν Ἰωὰβ εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ Κυρίου, καὶ ἰδοὺ κατέχει τῶν κεράτων τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου· καὶ ἀπέστειλε Σαλωμὼν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Ἰωὰβ, λέγων, τί γέγονέ σοι, ὅτι πέφευγας εἰς τὸ θυσιαστήριον; καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωὰβ, ὅτι ἐφοβήθην ἀπὸ προσώπου σου, καὶ ἔφυγον πρὸς Κύριον· καὶ ἀπέστειλε Σαλωμὼν τὸν Βαναίου υἱὸν Ἰωδαὲ, λέγων, πορεύου καὶ ἄνελε αὐτὸν, καὶ θάψον αὐτόν.

And Banæas son of Jodae came to Joab to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said to him, Thus says the king, Come forth. And Joab said, I will not come forth, for I will die here. And Banæas son of Jodae returned and spoke to the king, saying, Thus has Joab spoken, and thus has he answered me.

Καὶ ἦλθε Βαναίας υἱὸς Ἰωδαὲ πρὸς Ἰωὰβ εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ Κυρίου, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεὺς, ἔξελθε· καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωὰβ, οὐκ ἐκπορεύωμαι, ὅτι ὧδε ἀποθανοῦμαι· καὶ ἐπέστρεψε Βαναίας υἱὸς Ἰωδαὲ, καὶ εἶπε τῷ βασιλεῖ, λέγων, τάδε λελάληκεν Ἰωὰβ, καὶ τάδε ἀποκέκριταί μοι.

And the king said to him, Go, and do to him as he has spoken, and kill him: and thou shalt bury him, and thou shalt remove this day the blood which he shed without cause, from me and from the house of my father.

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεύς, πορεύου, καὶ ποίησον αὐτῷ καθὼς εἴρηκε, καὶ ἄνελε αὐτὸν· καὶ θάψεις αὐτὸν, καὶ ἐξαρεῖς σήμερον τὸ αἷμα ὃ δωρεὰν ἐξέχεεν, ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός μου.

And the Lord has returned upon his own head the blood of his unrighteousness, inasmuch as he attacked two men more righteous and better than himself, and slew them with the sword, and my father David knew not of their blood, even Abenner the son of Ner the commander-in-chief of Israel, and Amessa the son of Jether the commander-in-chief of Juda.

Καὶ ἐπέστρεψε Κύριος τὸ αἷμα τῆς ἀδικίας αὐτοῦ εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἀπήντησε τοῖς δυσὶν ἀνθρώποις τοῖς δικαίοις καὶ ἀγαθοῖς ὑπὲρ αὐτὸν, καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτοὺς ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ, καὶ ὁ πατήρ μου Δαυὶδ οὐκ ἔγνω τὸ αἷμα αὐτῶν, τὸν Ἀβεννὴρ υἱὸν Νὴρ ἀρχιστράτηγον Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ τὸν Ἀμεσσὰ υἱὸν Ἰεθὲρ ἀρχιστράτηγον Ἰούδα.

And their blood is returned upon his head, and upon the head of his seed for ever: but to David, and his seed, and his house, and his throne, may there be peace for ever from the Lord.

Καὶ ἐπεστράφη τὰ αἵματα αὐτῶν εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἰς κεφαλὴν τοῦ σπέρματος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα· καὶ τῷ Δαυὶδ καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ θρόνῳ αὐτοῦ γένοιτο εἰρήνη ἕως αἰῶνος παρὰ Κυρίου.

So Banæas son of Jodae went up, and attacked him, and slew him, and buried him in his house in the wilderness.

Καὶ ἀνέβη Βαναίας υἱὸς Ἰωδαὲ, καὶ ἀπήντησεν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἐθανάτωσεν αὐτὸν, καὶ ἔθαψεν αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ.

And the king appointed Banæas son of Jodae in his place over the host; and the kingdom was established in Jerusalem; and as for Sadoc the priest, the king appointed him to be high priest in the room of Abiathar. And Solomon son of David reigned over Israel and Juda in Jerusalem:

Καὶ ἔδωκεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν Βαναίου υἱὸν Ἰωδαὲ ἀντʼ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν στρατηγίαν· καὶ ἡ βασιλεία κατωρθοῦτο ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ· καὶ Σαδὼκ τὸν ἱερέα ἔδωκεν αὐτὸν ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς ἱερέα πρῶτον ἀντὶ Ἀβιάθαρ. Καὶ Σαλωμὼς υἱὸς Δαυὶδ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ Ἰούδα ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ·

and the Lord gave understanding to Solomon, and very much wisdom, and largeness of heart, as the sand by the sea-shore.

καὶ ἔδωκε Κύριος φρόνησιν τῷ Σαλωμὼν, καὶ σοφίαν πολλὴν σφόδρα, καὶ πλάτος καρδίας, ὡς ἡ ἄμμος ἡ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν.

And the wisdom of Solomon abounded exceedingly beyond the wisdom of all the ancients, and beyond all the wise men of Egypt;

Καὶ ἐπληθύνθη ἡ φρόνησις Σαλωμὼν σφόδρα ὑπὲρ τὴν φρόνησιν πάντων υἱῶν ἀρχαίων, καὶ ὑπὲρ πάντας φρονίμους Αἰγύπτου·

and he took the daughter of Pharao, and brought her into the city of David, until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the Lord first, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. In seven years he made and finished them.

Καὶ ἔλαβε τὴν θυγατέρα Φαραὼ, καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὴν εἰς πόλιν Δαυὶδ ἕως συντελέσαι αὐτὸν οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου ἐν πρώτοις, καὶ τὸ τεῖχος Ἱερουσαλὴμ κυκλόθεν· ἐν ἑπτὰ ἔτεσιν ἐποίησε καὶ συνετέλεσε.

And Solomon had seventy thousand bearers of burdens, and eighty thousand hewers of stone in the mountain:

Καὶ ἦν τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἐβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες αἴροντες ἄρσιν, καὶ ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες λατόμων ἐν τῷ ὄρει·

and Solomon made the sea, and the bases, and the great lavers, and the pillars, and the fountain of the court, and the brazen sea— and he built the citadel as a defence above it, he made a breach in the wall of the city of David;

καὶ ἐποίησε Σαλωμὼν τὴν θάλασσαν, καὶ τὰ ὑποστηρίγματα, καὶ τοὺς λουτῆρας τοὺς μεγάλους, καὶ τοὺς στύλους, καὶ τἠν κρήνην τῆς αὐλῆς, καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν χαλκῆν· καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε τὴν ἄκραν ἔπαλξιν ἐπʼ αὐτῆς, διεκόψεν τὴν πόλιν Δαυίδ.

thus the daughter of Pharao went up out of the city of David to her house which he built for her. Then he built the citadel;

οὕτως θυγάτηρ Φαραὼ ἀνέβαινεν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως Δαυὶδ εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτῆς, ὃν ᾠκοδόμησεν αὐτῇ· τότε ᾠκοδόμησε τὴν ἄκραν·

and Solomon offered up three whole-burnt-offerings in the year, and peace-offerings on the altar which he built to the Lord, and he burnt incense before the Lord, and finished the house.

καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἀνέφερε τρεῖς ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ ὁλοκαυτώσεις καὶ εἰρηνικὰς ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον ὃ ᾠκοδόμησε τῷ Κυρίῳ, καὶ ἐθυμία ἐνώπιον Κυρίου, καὶ συνετέλεσε τὸν οἶκον.

And these are the chief persons who presided over the works of Solomon; three thousand and six hundred masters of the people that wrought the works.

Καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες οἱ καθεσταμένοι ἐπὶ τὰ ἔργα τοῦ Σαλωμὼν, τρεῖς χιλιάδες καὶ ἑξακόσιοι ἐπιστάται τοῦ λαοῦ τῶν ποιούντων τὰ ἔργα·

And he built Assur, and Magdo, and Gazer, and upper Bæthoron, and Ballath:

καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε τὴν Ἀσσοὺρ, καὶ τὴν Μαγδὼ, καὶ τὴν Γαζὲρ, καὶ τὴν Βαιθωρὼν ἐπάνω, καὶ τὰ Βαλλάθ·

only after he had built the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about, afterwards he built these cities.

πλὴν μετὰ τὸ οἰκοδομῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Κυρίου, καὶ τὸ τεῖχος Ἱερουσαλὴμ κύκλῳ, μετὰ ταῦτα ᾠκοδόμησε τὰς πόλεις ταύτας.

And when David was yet living, he charged Solomon, saying, Behold, there is with thee Semei the son of Gera, of the seed of Benjamin out of Chebron:

Καὶ ἐν τῷ ἔτι Δαυὶδ ζῇν, ἐνετείλατο τῷ Σαλωμὼν, λέγων, ἰδοὺ μετὰ σοῦ Σεμεῒ υἱὸς Γηρὰ υἱὸς τοῦ σπέρματος τοῦ Ἰεμινὶ ἐκ Χεβρών·

he cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went into the camp;

οὗτος κατηράσατό με κατάραν ὀδυνηρὰν ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐπορευόμην εἰς παρεμβολάς·

and he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, He shall not be slain with the sword.

καὶ αὐτὸς κατέβαινεν εἰς ἀπαντήν μοι ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰορδάνην, καὶ ὤμοσα αὐτῷ κατὰ τοῦ Κυρίου, λέγων, εἰ θανατωθήσεται ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ·

But now do not thou hold him guiltless, for thou art a man of understanding, and thou wilt know what thou shalt do to him, and thou shalt bring down his grey hairs with blood to the grave.

καὶ νῦν μὴ ἀθωώσῃς αὐτὸν, ὅτι ἀνὴρ φρόνιμος σύ· καὶ γνώσῃ ἃ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ, καὶ κατάξεις τὴν πολιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐν αἵματι εἰς ᾅδου.

And the king called Semei, and said to him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and thou shalt not go out thence any whither.

Καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν Σεμεῒ, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, ὠκοδόμησον σεαυτῷ οἶκον ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ κάθου ἐκεῖ, καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεύσῃ ἐκεῖθεν οὐδαμοῦ.

And it shall come to pass in the day that thou shalt go forth and cross over the brook Kedron, know assuredly that thou shalt certainly die: thy blood shall be upon thine head. And the king caused him to swear in that day.

Καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῆς ἐξόδου σου καὶ διαβήσῃ τὸν χείμαῤῥον Κέδρων, γινώσκων γνώσῃ ὅτι θανάτῳ ἀποθανῇ· τὸ αἷμά σου ἔσται ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλήν σου· καὶ ὥρκισεν αὐτὸν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ.

And Semei said to the king, Good is the word that thou hast spoken, my lord O king: thus will thy servant do. And Semei dwelt in Jerusalem three years.

Καὶ εἶπε Σεμεῒ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα, ἀγαθὸν τὸ ῥῆμα ὃ ἐλάλησας, κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ· οὕτω ποιήσει ὁ δοῦλός σου· καὶ ἐκάθισε Σεμεῒ ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ τρία ἔτη.

And it came to pass after the three years, that two servants of Semei ran away to Anchus son of Maacha king of Geth: and it was told Semei, saying, Behold, thy servants are in Geth.

Καὶ ἐγενήθη μετὰ τὰ τρία ἔτη, καὶ ἀπέδρασαν δύο δοῦλοι τοῦ Σεμεῒ πρὸς Ἀγχοὺς υἱὸν Μααχὰ βασιλέα Γέθ· καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Σεμεῒ, λέγοντες, ἰδοὺ οἱ δοῦλοί σου ἐν Γέθ.

And Semei rose up, and saddled his ass, and went to Geth to Anchus to seek out his servants: and Semei went, and brought his servants out of Geth.

Καὶ ἀνέστη Σεμεῒ καὶ ἐπέσαξε τὴν ὄνον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς Γὲθ πρὸς Ἀγχοὺς τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπορεύθη Σεμεῒ, καὶ ἤγαγε τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ἐκ Γέθ.

And it was told Solomon, saying, Semei is gone out of Jerusalem to Geth, and has brought back his servants.

Καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Σαλωμὼν, λέγοντες, ὅτι ἐπορεύθη Σεμεῒ ἐξ Ἱερουσαλὴμ εἰς Γὲθ, καὶ ἀνέστρεψε τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ.

And the king sent and called Semei, and said to him, Did I not adjure thee by the Lord, and testify to thee, saying, In whatsoever day thou shalt go out of Jerusalem, and go to the right or left, know certainly that thou shalt assuredly die?

Καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ ἐκάλεσε τὸν Σεμεῒ, καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτόν, οὐχὶ ὥρκισά σε κατὰ τοῦ Κυρίου, καὶ ἐπεμαρτυράμην σοι, λέγων, ἐν ᾗ ἂν ἡμέρᾳ ἐξέλθῃς ἐξ Ἱερουσαλὴμ, καὶ πορευθῇς εἰς δεξιὰ ἢ εἰς ἀριστερά, γινώσκων γνώσῃ ὅτι θανάτῳ ἀποθανῇ;

And why hast thou not kept the oath of the Lord, and the commandment which I commanded thee?

Καὶ τί ὅτι οὐκ ἐφύλαξας τὸν ὅρκον Κυρίου, καὶ τὴν ἐντολὴν ἣν ἐνετειλάμην κατὰ σοῦ;

And the king said to Semei, Thou knowest all thy mischief which thy heart knows, which thou didst to David my father: and the Lord has recompensed thy mischief on thine own head.

Καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Σεμεῒ, σὺ οἶδας πᾶσαν τὴν κακίαν σου ἣν οἶδεν ἡ καρδία σου, ἃ ἐποίησας Δαυὶδ τῷ πατρί μου, καὶ ἀνταπέδωκε Κύριος τὴν κακίαν σου εἰς κεφαλήν σου.

And king Solomon is blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the Lord for ever.

Καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν εὐλογημένος, καὶ ὁ θρόνος Δαυὶδ ἔσται ἕτοιμος ἐνώπιον Κυρίου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.

And Solomon commanded Banæas the son of Jodae, and he went forth and slew him.

Καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν τῷ Βαναίᾳ υἱῷ Ἰωδαὲ, καὶ ἐξῆλθε καὶ ἀνεῖλεν αὐτόν.

And king Solomon was very prudent and wise: and Juda and Israel were very many, as the sand which is by the sea for multitude, eating, and drinking, and rejoicing:

Καὶ ἦν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν φρόνιμος σφόδρα καὶ σοφός· καὶ Ἰούδα καὶ Ἰσραὴλ πολλοὶ σφόδρα, ὡς ἡ ἄμμος ἡ ἐπὶ τῆς θαλάσσης εἰς πλῆθος, ἐσθίοντες καὶ πίνοντες καὶ χαίροντες·

and Solomon was chief in all the kingdoms, and they brought gifts, and served Solomon all the days of his life.

καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἦν ἄρχων ἐν πάσαις ταῖς βασιλείαις· καὶ ἦσαν προσφέροντες δῶρα, καὶ ἐδούλευον τῷ Σαλωμὼν πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ζωῆς αὐτοῦ·

And Solomon began to open the domains of Libanus,

καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἤρξατο ἀνοίγειν τὰ δυναστεύματα τοῦ Λιβάνου·

and he built Thermæ in the wilderness.

καὶ αὐτὸς ᾠκοδόμησε τὴν Θερμαὶ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ·

And this was the daily provision of Solomon, thirty measures of fine flour, and sixty measures of ground meal, ten choice calves, and twenty oxen from the pastures, and a hundred sheep, besides stags, and does, and choice fed birds.

καὶ τοῦτο τὸ ἄριστον τῷ Σαλωμών· τριάκοντα κόροι σεμιδάλεως, καὶ ἑξήκοντα κόροι ἀλεύρου κεκοπανισμένου, δέκα μόσχοι ἐκλεκτοὶ, καὶ εἴκοσι βόες νομάδες, καὶ ἑκατὸν πρόβατα, ἐκτὸς ἐλάφων καὶ δορκάδων καὶ ὀρνίθων ἐκλεκτῶν νομάδων·

For he ruled in all the country on this side the river, from Raphi unto Gaza, over all the kings on this side the river:

ὅτι ἦν ἄρχων ἐν παντὶ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ ἀπὸ Ῥαφὶ ἕως Γάζης ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς βασιλεῦσι πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ·;

and he was at peace on all sides round about; and Juda and Israel dwelt safely, every one under his vine and under his fig tree, eating and drinking, and feasting, from Dan even to Bersabee, all the days of Solomon.

καὶ ἦν αὐτῷ εἰρήνη ἐκ πάντων τῶν μερῶν αὐτοῦ κυκλόθεν· καὶ κατῴκει Ἰούδα καὶ Ἰσραὴλ πεποιθότες, ἕκαστος ὑπὸ τὴν ἄμπελον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὑπὸ τὴν συκῆν αὐτοῦ, ἐσθίοντες καὶ πίνοντες καὶ ἑορτάζοντες ἀπὸ Δὰν καὶ ἕως Βηρσαβεὲ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας Σαλωμών.

And these were the princes of Solomon; Azariu son of Sadoc the priest, and Orniu son of Nathan chief of the officers, and he went to his house; and Suba the scribe, and Basa son of Achithalam recorder, and Abi son of Joab commander-in-chief, and Achire son of Edrai was over the levies, and Banæas son of Jodae over the household and over the brickwork, and Cachur the son of Nathan was counsellor.

Καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες τοῦ Σαλωμών. Ἀζαρίου υἱὸς Σαδὼκ τοῦ ἱερέως, καὶ Ὀρνίου υἱὸς Νάθαν ἄρχων τῶν ἐφεστηκότων· καὶ ἔδραμεν ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ· καὶ Σουβὰ γραμματεὺς, καὶ Βασὰ υἱὸς Ἀχιθαλὰμ ἀναμιμνήσκων, καὶ Ἀβὶ υἱὸς Ἰωὰβ ἀρχιστράτηγος, καὶ Ἀχιρὲ υἱὸς Ἐδραῒ ἐπὶ τὰς ἄρσεις, καὶ Βαναίας υἱὸς Ἰωδαὲ ἐπὶ τῆς αὐλαρχίας καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ πλινθίου, καὶ Καχοὺρ υἱὸς Νάθαν ὁ σύμβουλος.

And Solomon had forty thousand brood mares for his chariots, and twelve thousand horses.

Καὶ ἦσαν τῷ Σαλωμὼν τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδες τοκάδες ἵπποι εἰς ἅρματα, καὶ δώδεκα χιλιάδες ἵππων·

And he reigned over all the kings from the river and to the land of the Philistines, and to the borders of Egypt:

καὶ ἦν ἄρχων ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς βασιλεῦσιν ἀπὸ τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ ἕως γῆς ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ἕως ὁρίων Αἰγύπτου·

so Solomon the son of David reigned over Israel and Juda in Jerusalem.

καὶ Σαλωμὼν υἱὸς Δαυὶδ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ Ἰούδα ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ.
